Karen and Friends.
It's Quite Cool, Martinborough.

Drawings printed on vinyl transfers.

Gelato van.

Karen Gordy and Steve Baker park the It's Quite Cool gelato van next to the Weirdo Wings in Martinborough. So it wasn't long before they asked me to do some cute weirdo decorations for them!

We came up with some fun line drawings of people and animals, and some brightly coloured gelato scoops. They're sticking them on the van as and when they have the funds, and I love watching it evolve. When Karen Gordy chose the pigtailed girl to be the first gelato weirdo, and then learned her name was *also Karen*... Welp, it was pretty much destiny.
Karen.
The curly pigtailed Karen character on the van is based on this pic:

Karen was my best mate growing up. When we were six, she and I were climbing in and out of trees and she came across a dead baby bird on the ground. She picked it up and just STARED. Clearly it was a pretty huge moment for her, little brain cogs churning around the edges of this whole life and death thing.

I think there's a great connection between the thrill of finding a dead baby bird, and getting a *triple scoop gelato cone as big as your head*.

Everything is a big deal when you're six.
