SOLD. 300mm x 300mm. Mixed media on board. Bach's Coffee Cantata is a comic opera about a girl in the 1700s whose love of coffee bewilders her father. He tries to bribe her into marriage to break her of the habit, but she manoeuvres her way out of it - preferring coffee over pretty much anything. Bach was poking fun at the new popularity of coffee, and at the uppity moralising attitudes from some corners of society.
